Running Y in Klamath Falls
Where it is
Running Y Ranch is a census-designated place in Klamath County, on a cluster of hills about 8 miles northwest of Klamath Falls, according to Wikipedia. Upper Klamath Lake lies to its northeast. The resort's own address is 5500 Running Y Road, Klamath Falls, OR 97601.
The resort
The Running Y Resort website describes a year-round, 3,600-acre resort with a golf course, spa, dining, event space and vacation rentals, at the base of the Cascade Mountain Range and near Crater Lake. It lists an 18-hole Arnold Palmer Signature Course, an 81-room lodge and vacation homes. The site says the resort is surrounded by miles of scenic trails and lists hiking and kayaking among its activities.
The lake
The resort site mentions birdwatching at Upper Klamath Lake as an activity for guests, and Discover Klamath, the area's visitor bureau, lists Running Y Resort among lakeside lodging options on its Upper Klamath Lake guide. Neither page gives directions to a public launch or says whether a lake shore is on the resort property, so we do not state how to reach the water from here. For public access points on the lake, see Klamath Basin outdoors.
Running Y in numbers
The Census counts the area as a small place, so its figures are noisy. The American Community Survey counted 607 residents, well below the 858 counted in the 2020 Census. Seasonal homes make a resident count hard to pin down, and the 2020 housing-unit count is the safer size measure.
| Measure | Running Y Ranch |
|---|---|
| Population, 2020 Census | 858 |
| Housing units, 2020 Census | 558 |
| Median household income (ACS) | $102,697 |
| Median home value (ACS) | $599,100 |
| Residents aged 65 and over (ACS) | 67.5% |
| Seasonal homes (ACS) | 29.3% |
Owner-occupied homes at $300,000 or more number 220 of 250 in the ACS table. Because the margins of error are wide for a place this small, read these as a general picture: an older, higher-income, higher-value community with many seasonal homes. A larger Census block group that covers much of the resort (410359709011) reads similarly, with a median household income of $93,750, a median home value of $570,800 and 61.6 percent aged 65 and over.
